We’re an inclusive network of teachers, scholars, researchers and practitioners working together to advance computing as a discipline. Our initiatives Whether you’re an experienced computer science teacher or novice computing teacher, there are many ways for you to get involved, develop your skills and build your confidence. Computing At School (CAS) CAS is a grassroots organisation which supports primary and secondary school computing teachers, by providing training materials and bringing the community together to share ideas and best practice. Our aim is for computing to become firmly established in all schools. In recent years, we’ve helped to grow the number of computing teachers and we played a pivotal role in changing the national curriculum, advising stakeholders on policy issues and proposing content for curricula and qualifications. Computer science is now included as the fourth science in the EBacc school performance measure. To find out what’s going on in your area and how CAS can support your development visit Computing At School . Barefoot Computing Our Barefoot Computing project is funded by BT and dedicated to helping primary school children learn about the building blocks of our digital world. As a primary teacher you may already teach some level of computing - with Barefoot resources, you can apply computational thinking across your lessons in a way that’s easy to teach and fun for your pupils to learn. Created by teachers, for teachers, our resources are freely available including lesson plans and tutor notes. It’s also free to attend a Barefoot workshop where you can meet up with other primary teachers and discuss different teaching methods. Discover resources and workshops near you - visit Barefoot Computing . BCS teacher training scholarship As part of our mission to support computer science teaching, BCS provides a teacher training scholarship. If you are interested in becoming a computer teacher you may be eligible to apply for our scholarship. In addition to tax free funding of £28,000, you will receive access to a range of professional development resources, CPD opportunities and associate membership with BCS. Find out more about our scholarship . BCS certifications for teachers A growing national shortage of computing teachers means increasingly schools are turning to teachers of other subjects to help them deliver the computer science elements of the curriculum. To help support these teachers in enhancing their computing knowledge we have developed specific certification programmes. Find out more about our certificates: BCS Certificate in Computer Science Teaching BCS Subject Knowledge Enhancement in Computer Science The Roehampton annual computing education report This pre-release report is an early snapshot of the uptake of computing / computer science qualifications at GCSE in England from the 2018 exam sittings. The report brings together government data on computing provision in English schools, including the school performance tables for exams taken in 2018 and the school workforce census up to 2017. More about the 2018 report How is the Academy governed?
